Best Brunch Restaurants in Victoria, Canada | The Coastal Campaign

Victoria is a gorgeous coastal city with an old town feel and incredible charm. It is nestled right on the coast, with a bustling inner harbour at the heart of the city, and beautiful nature at its surroundings. But in my opinion, what is truly extraordinary about this city, is its food scene. As outdoorsy and active as this city is, Victoria locals also love to eat.

With the second highest number of restaurants per capita in all of North America, this city is a true foodie paradise. It is filled with options of cute cafes, beautifully styled and designed bars and a booming farm to table restaurant scene. But nothing quite captures the love this city has for food, like a brunch outing. Despite being spoiled for choice, expect to have to wait in line at the more popular venues. Victoria locals love to brunch and all the hotspots will be cued out the door. Don’t let that deter you – here are 7 brunch spots well worth the wait!

1. Mo:Lé Restaurant

This restaurant is located in the heart of downtown on Pandora Avenue and embodies everything Victoria loves – locally-sourced, fresh food with a healthy, creative twist. There was a bit of a line when we were there, but you are welcome (and even encouraged) to pop by next door at Habit Coffee to have a latte while you wait. They will even come by and grab you when your table is ready. We sampled a few of their brunch cocktails – gorgeous inspired combinations – and they did not disappoint.

To top it all off, not only is Mo:Lé’s food so incredibly tasty, but they also accommodate many different allergies and eating styles – vegan, gluten-free, raw, etc.

2. Jam Cafe

Definitely one of Victoria’s go-to favorites. A tiny venue packed with tables in a rustic setting. Its claim is “comfort food” with a unique spin. You will be sure to find all the classic breakfast favorites but loads of other options such as pulled pork pancakes or their infamous Charlie Bowl – a breakfast hash of sorts with crumbled biscuits, peas, ham, sausage gravy and more! If you are on the adventurous side, it is a do-not-miss in my opinion.

3. Blue Fox Cafe

Luke and I visited Blue Fox for the first time last weekend and it was everything you would want in a breakfast joint. It had a good mixture of warm boozy drinks, vibrant décor and delicious breakfast staples. Although known for their variety of incredible eggs benedicts on local fresh bagels, we both took a different route and were very satisfied with our french toast and huevos rancheros.

4. The Ruby

With two venues to choose from, there is no excuse not to visit the Ruby. That being said, I am definitely partial towards the one at Hotel Zed on Douglas. This place radiates funky retro vibes with its vibrant colours, old school vinyls and 70’s style décor. But what I truly love about the Ruby, is that it has embraced its neighbouring food artisans. This restaurant delivers on its approach to support the community through serving Discovery Coffee, frying up local Red Barn bacon and offering Yonni's Doughnuts for dessert.

5. John’s Place

If you are after your classic breakfast diner, then look no further than John’s Place. This eclectic locale has floor-to-ceiling covered walls with old school posters and celebrity headshots. Its been operating for 34 years and if that doesn’t speak for itself, then its delicious breakfast dishes made from scratch will be sure to win you over. Be sure to try their classic eggs benny or their homemade pies.

6. The Village Restaurant

I stumbled upon this place after a wonderful day spent at Willows Beach nearby. It was so incredible I dragged Luke and his parents there as well, when they were visiting from Ireland. Although I settled on a more lunch-style option, as you can see from the picture (which was incredible!), everyone else adored their brunch items too. It is so good here that it has even been featured on the Food Network. There are three venues throughout Victoria, so it doesn’t matter which one you go to, just go!

7. Floyd’s Diner

If I had to describe this hot-pink brunch spot in one word it would be funky! This diner isn’t just famous for its bold, hot pink exterior. It also serves up delicious, huge portions and dream-worthy milkshakes. But what locals truly know this place for, is its legendary dish – the Mahony. Add a little excitement to your brunch with this chef’s special (whatever delicious and crazy concoction they dream up) and then test your luck by flipping a coin to see if you get your meal for free, or have to pay double!

Nothing beats a good weekend brunch outing with friends. Whether you are a local, or just visiting for the weekend, join in on Victoria’s brunch-craze and test out a few of these restaurants for yourself.
